In this high-impact job you’ll work with many great people on delivering a seamless user experience for 4.5 million customers across our consumer-focused touchpoints such as nn.nl, Mijn NN, and the mobile app.
As an enthusiastic leader you lead by example. You’re happy to roll up your sleeves and work together with your UX designers on ensuring that the teams at Retail put the customer at the center of their daily work. You analyze the current customer journeys, identify the problems and opportunities, and get both the business and the designers within your business line on board with a tangible strategy for the future user experiences.
You develop the professional maturity of UX design within the Retail domain and are primarily responsible for demonstrably improving the effective use of design. You optimize the utilization of our design capacity as well as how we orchestrate design. This includes taking responsibility for the quality and coherence of design deliverables, but also coaching and stimulating the professional development of the designers within your scope.
What you are going to do
You ensure that UX Design is applied in a valuable way, making a positive impact on both our customer experience and our business. On the job you will:
- Influence the product vision and translate strategy into coherent experience design across touchpoints, e.g. design the experience of touchpoint-overarching concepts such as messaging or navigation
- Ensure the adoption of our standard design practices which enable product teams to implement validated solutions to real customer problems
- Guide design execution and efficient collaboration across teams
- Ensure the design deliverables of your team are of high quality and coherence
- Ensure design talent is appropriately skilled and in the right positions, aligning with the needs of both the organization and the designers. You support the professional development of 5 designers across multidisciplinary product teams (HR responsible)
Who you will work with
The Retail domain is part of our central Customer & Digital (C&D) business unit which connects the other business units (e.g. Bank, Insurance, Pensions) of Nationale-Nederlanden with our joint customers. C&D looks after all generic systems, platforms, capabilities and service desks used in servicing our customers. For example, our digital portals and the NN app, the chatbot technology we are continuously developing and implementing, and building expertise like Customer Research, UX Design and Data Science throughout the company. The Retail domain is a very international community of people with a result-oriented culture. In this position you’ll work with the people in and around multidisciplinary product teams such as UX designers, engineers and product owners, engineering managers, and the Head of Retail.
You collaborate closely with a dedicated UX Researcher for Retail and the central Design System team to make your designers even more effective. In our own NN Design Guild we discuss our profession with over 60 designers from all corners of the company and ensure that we continue to learn and develop together. You will join the guild's core team, where you will work with other design leads on our joint mission to further mature UX design across NN.
What we offer you

- 27 vacation days for a 5-day working week and one Diversity Day
- A modern pension administered by BeFrank
- Plenty of training and learning opportunities
- NS Business Card 2nd class, which gives you unlimited travel, also privately. Do you prefer to travel with your own transport? Then you can declare the kilometres travelled

We work hybrid at NN. Together with your team, you decide where, how and when you work. The official location of this job is The Hague.
Who you are
Because you’re organized and good at keeping overview, you’re comfortable with a large scope and variety of (senior) stakeholders. As you connect the dots, you spot opportunities for efficiency or innovation and are eager to make those ideas tangible and persuade others to take action. You’re a real team player and able to inspire others, foster collaboration, and achieve common goals by setting a clear direction. You keep an eye on the big picture and recognize the influence of your decisions on other parts of the organization. You bring with you:
- Deep knowledge and experience in the field of UX design on digital consumer products and applied design techniques across the entire product development lifecycle; from discovering customer problems to determining whether a customer is using the solution satisfactorily and according expectations
- A relevant bachelor or master degree and 15+ years of experience as a designer in complex organizations (combination of agency, consultancy, and enterprise experience is an advantage)
- Experience in coaching and professionally developing designers
- Proven experience in organizing and/or facilitating creative sessions and collaborating with other colleagues and stakeholders to realize designs with shared ownership
- Experience in developing and implementing design vision and strategy
- Experience in introducing and/or developing the professional maturity of the UX design competence within a complex organization
- Experience with modern design and prototyping tools, particularly Figma (Enterprise)
