Senior Java Backend Engineer

This is a role where you’ll be technically challenged, and where you can apply your vision on technical architecture and developer experience & CI/CD.

What you are going to do

You will join a cross functional team that develop, maintain and innovate our Platform as a Service (PAAS) used by the other teams of OHRA. With your enthusiastic approach you continuously work to improve developer experience, performance, security and stability of the services. You will be part of the development efforts ensuring future readiness and delivering a reliable, high quality platform as a foundation for retaining our #1 position in customer satisfaction in digital servicing. Your responsibilities entail but are not limited to:

• Collaborate with the developers of the teams that work on our customer facing portals to ensure the platform meets their expectations. This includes balancing flexibility against uniformity, where you are expected to see the bigger picture
• Developing, maintaining and improving the developer facing part of our platform. The complete platform consists of AWS services, Java, Jakarta EE, JavaScript, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Maven, NPM, Quarkus, Liberty, and a development toolset for developer laptops
• Large parts of the platform are implemented using existing software, but we develop some components ourselves. You will be writing clear, efficient, optimized code and ensuring that deployment of increments are tested and automated through CI/CD pipelines
• Embedding high security and quality standards in your work, building and maintaining automated test frameworks

Who you are

Your passion for technology and delivering high quality solutions is evident in everything you do. You bring 5+ years of experience in a senior engineering position. Preferably you are proficient in both Dutch and English. Furthermore you bring:

• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and analytically to identify and implement effective solutions
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
• A passion for automating and implementing recurring tasks, testing, and security in CI/CD systems, a DevOps mindset and knowledge about software architectures
• Relevant experience with Java
• Standardization

Who you will work with

You are part of the Red Service Team: a group of 8 enthusiastic IT professionals who develop and manage the OHRA platform. Some of them focus on AWS infrastructure and operations. As one of the developer platform engineers, your focus is on developer experience & CI/CD. Your direct colleagues are always looking for ways to improve and are eager to roll up their sleeves, both for developers and for each other.

This hybrid role entails being physically present at our Arnhem office once every other week, while allowing you the flexibility to work remotely from home or at our offices in The Hague, Rotterdam, or Amsterdam on the remaining days.
