'NN has a great tech setup and a good fit with my skills'

‘I love to cook, and I see some connection between cooking and engineering. You have a recipe and ingredients that you have to put together. Your first result might not be perfect, but if you keep practicing, you can certainly get it right. I was drawn to work in IT because it’s work that delivers something that’s truly useful to other people. I can have a real impact and my work is really valuable.

‘I left Poland because I wanted to see what it was like to work in another country. I worked for a while in the Czech Republic before the job at NN Insurance brought me to Belgium. I chose NN because I met some of my potential colleagues during the interview process, and it was a team I really wanted to work with. They’re great people. But it was also the technology NN is using. As a Front-end Developer, it was really great to see that NN is working with cloud technologies on the back end, and with React, Redux and Typescript on the front end. It’s a great tech setup and a good fit with my skills.’

Different vibes in different rooms

‘I split my time between working at home and working in the office. NN gives me the flexibility to plan my week the way it works best for me. But even when I’m working at home, I still have plenty of contact with my colleagues. At the office, it’s less quiet, but also more dynamic. I get the opportunity to work with people I like, and also share a coffee or lunch with them. NN emphasises a good work/life balance, and that ensures that nothing gets too overwhelming.

‘The first six months I worked here, I joined a team that was working on a product for brokers that was already quite mature. But the teamwork was amazing. We worked well together, stayed in constant contact and had a really close connection to our end users – we were getting feedback within hours for a very complex project. We were making forms to make brokers’ lives as easy as possible, giving them the best UX and UI possible. We incorporated as much useful information as we could to guide them through their processes. Seeing how our work made a direct impact on our colleagues was really great. If brokers are happy, then customers are happy. What can be better than that?’

Continuous growth

‘Now, I’m working on a team that’s completely changing a whole technology stack. For a developer like me, it’s important to be flexible and keep learning. NN gives you lots of opportunities to grow. We get learning sessions, training platforms and classes to gain new skills. Even during our regular work, I’m always learning new things and I’m never bored. But maybe even better, NN encourages you with positive feedback. In my previous jobs, I didn’t always hear about it when things went really well. But here, there’s always someone to say “good job!” when you succeed at something. I really feel a bit spoiled.

‘NN Is quite a mature company, so a lot more stable than a start-up. But they’re definitely not afraid to explore new technologies. I’ve gotten training on AI, ChatGPT and Copilot, and you might not expect that from an insurance company. But all this great tech, combined with the great people, makes this a really nice place to work.’

Paint your future

‘I’m a do-it-yourself kind of person, and I love painting and drawing. When I was a little girl, I thought I might want to be an artist. But my father worked in IT, so there were PCs all around me. I always tried to understand what he was doing. At some point, I changed direction. My high school focused on art, I went to university to study economics, but I eventually chose programming because I was looking for something practical, something truly useful for other people. My exposure to the IT world at such a young age sparked my interest, and I’m glad I chose it. I get to create things every day that have a real purpose.’
