'The challenges in particular teach us a lot'

As part of team SIDAP, Tom and Maxime are preparing NN Group for the future. Through the schade en Inkomen Data Analytics Platform, they ensure efficient data usage. Despite having different educational backgrounds, Tom and Maxime share a passion for data. Tom, an econometrics graduate, is a solution architect and sets up the direction for technical solutions. Maxime, with a background in biomedical sciences, manages the project as the product owner.

Within NN, the old data warehouse will soon be phased out. This allows us to save money as an organization and stay up to date. Meanwhile, with the new platform SIDAP, Maxime and Tom are making it possible to transform the Schade en Inkomen department into a data-driven business unit. Maxime explains, “We want to provide our users with the data we have available and offer them a space where they can perform advanced data analyses with the latest tools.”

SIDAP allows Maxime, Tom and their colleagues to perform complex analyses quickly. “We are now much more focused on how we can work together without getting in each other's way when it comes to data”, Tom adds. “Additionally, we can now track up-to-date data very well, which also contributes to security”, says Maxime. “It is truly a future-proof solution to serve the business lines of Schade en Inkomen. And the end is in sight: if everything goes according to plan, we will shut down the old data warehouse by the end of 2025.”

Learning through challenges

With large projects like these, challenges always arise. Team SIDAP, for example, needs to communicate with different target groups, each of which uses the platform with a different cause in mind. Security also requires a lot of attention. “But it’s necessary”, says Maxime, “because we want to optimally protect our data and the work of our end users.”

To make the new platform workable for everyone, team SIDAP maintains frequent contact with the users and analyzes how the tool is being used. Maxime plays a connecting role between her team and the users of SIDAP. “I am involved in the technological implementation of everything. I also engage with the users to find out what they want and what we can offer them, thus gathering valuable feedback. We’ve learned a lot from all the challenges.”

Shaping the future of NN

Preparing NN for the future: that’s what Tom and Maxime, together with their team, contribute to. They prefer to do this sustainably: with a solid foundation and as much automation as possible. Their team also works with increasingly newer techniques and data. “Think of dynamic pricing, for example, where we can offer a suitable price to our customers based on a prediction. Or climate and sensor data, which can help us predict fires. We provide the foundation for such innovative projects”, Tom proudly explains. “This is how we learn to cope with changes in the world.”

In addition to successes for the future of NN, Maxime and Tom are also taking great steps for their own futures. According to Tom, NN clearly demonstrates that age is just a number: “I am quite young to be in this position”, he says. “And many colleagues around me are as well. Here, it’s about your ambition, not just your experience and age. Of course, you have to work hard for it, but there are certainly opportunities.” Maxime agrees: “I advanced from engineer to manager within a few years. If you have a clear idea of what you want, you will get the support to achieve it.”

Plenty of possibilities for innovation

Do Tom and Maxime appreciate their place in the SIDAP team? Absolutely. “I am amazed at how many young, skilled people we have gathered in one group”, Maxime says. “That, combined with the enthusiasm, involvement, and helpfulness of colleagues, makes it a pleasant environment to work in.”

Additionally, the team has plenty of room to innovate. “At NN, technological advancement is truly a priority. We are determined to become a data-driven company, and this is evident at all levels”, says Maxime. Tom adds: “We are given the time to take that extra step and deliver everything as well as we can.”

Proud of NN

Not only do they feel comfortable in their team; Maxime and Tom have also truly found their place within NN. What else do they appreciate about their employer? The importance NN places on the mental health of their employees. According to Maxime, she is regularly checked in on. “Here, it’s really about you as an employee.” How NN is perceived by others is also important to the two colleagues. “NN is seen as friendly and a bit more dynamic than other financial companies,” Tom begins. "And we help society move forward.” Maxime adds, “It’s really a cool company. I can proudly say ‘hey, I work at NN’.”
