I started working for NN Group or back then it was still part of ING – in June 2007, after graduating as an applied mathematician as well as attending a PhD course in applied statistics at Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest. It has already been almost 10 years since then, time flies very fast. Over these 10 years, I have been moving back and forth between Hungary – where I am originally from – and the Netherlands.
I spent the first three years of my career working for NN Hungary as an actuary. After that I had the opportunity to move to the Netherlands to join the Risk Management Team responsible for overseeing NN’s Central European operations. The team was located in Amsterdam and included representatives from many disciplines and nationalities. I was there when NN started implementing the new regulatory requirements for Solvency II, a new capital standard to come into force in 2016 for all EU insurance companies. Being part of that project gave me great insight into different countries’ product portfolios and modelling approaches and provided me with great exposure towards NN Group senior leaders .
In 2013, I was asked to move back to Hungary and take up my first managerial role. I became the managing director of NN Group’s small entity called Regional Actuarial Services in Budapest. This team was and is still responsible for supporting NN’s local business units with all kinds of actuarial and risk management services, from cash flow model development to economic scenario generation. Not only did this role provide me with my first experience as a manager it also gave me insight into different areas. I was in that role for 18 months, after which I took up my next challenge within NN Group and started working as Chief Finance and Risk Officer of NN Re, NN Group’s reinsurance company in 2014, not long after the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of NN Group and its split from ING. In my current role I am a member of the Management Board of NN Re and responsible for all risk, finance and capital management related activities within NN Re.
Our organisation is very young and dynamic with more than 25 different nationalities working seamlessly together to achieve more and more every day. I am very enthusiastic about my work and enjoy every day in the office. Just because of the nature of reinsurance business, every contract is different and every situation is complex in our day-to-day business. Complexity? Yes, imagine that this is a business where I can still have a discussion, on, for example, stochastic differential equations, as part of my daily responsibilities. For me diversity of topics and the great colleagues – whom I consider my family after 10 years – are the things which make NN Group a great place to work.
