What do you like most in your job?
I enjoy that each day is different, priorities change, and new challenges appear. The balance between analyses, interaction with people and providing added value to the objectives of NN ensure that I like to go to work, pretty much every day.
What does an average working day look like for you?
My average working day, is about an hour of checking and responding to emails, one or two meetings a day, and leaving about 4 to 6 hours a day on control activities and related deliverables, including a fair bit of Excel work.
Where did you go on vacation last year and what do you think is the best way to take a vacation?
My favorite holiday is to travel around, and to combine a bit of cultural exploration, to eat local food and spending some time in nature, preferably mountains. But, a holiday is only really good if you spend the last of week of holidays at a sunny beach!
What function do you have outside your job?
Next to my job, I am also the bookkeeper of an ice skating society. I Iike the availability, pretty much anywhere in The Netherlands, of all the sport societies, mostly run by volunteers. So I am providing my fair bit of support for this structure through this function.
What is the most inspiring workplace for you?
I consider an inspiring workplace an environment where day-to-day challenges are a bit complex and dynamic. This will keep me inspired to use my brain power and to keep priority for continuous improvement.
What is the biggest challenge in your job?
The biggest challenge in my work in a control function, is to drive colleagues and providers to procedures which make their day to day work more difficult, sometimes less efficient, or even less fun. In the end, the challenge is to find an balance between formal procedures and the daily execution of day to day work, which keeps our IT environment safe and daily work still effective, but also fun.
How is the culture within the department?
The culture is our department is objective based, driven by common sense and freedom for team members to plan and realise deliverables.
What can a new colleague expect from you?
New interns or colleagues can expect from me that they are a full member of our team, and that she or he will have a complete learning experience, including education on some knowledge for operational processes, but also to meet and influence people. In the end, an intern can complete their assignment as an professional, with hands-on experience on best-practices in IT Control.
