Why did you start working at NN?

I applied for the internship of the Financial Accountant offered by the Accounting and Reporting team of NNIP in the Hague directly after my master studies. Since the beginning, as a non-Dutch candidate, I wanted to join a multicultural working environment to see how people from different nationalities deal with their daily challenges and eventually find my own way of dealing with the difficulties of the job and improve my professional as well as my personal skills. Another important reason that made me apply for a vacancy in NNIP in the first place was the fact that NNIP endorses its employees to be their best and act with integrity.

How would you describe the culture at NN?

People working for NN/NNIP are very friendly. During coffee breaks or lunch time you can have a conversation and exchange of ideas, not necessarily work-related, with colleagues from your own or other departments. These short breaks help you clear your mind and forget for a few minutes the stress that you may have upon the achievement of upcoming deadlines.

What is the biggest challenge in your job?

The biggest challenge, but also the best part of my job, is the month-end closing deadlines. During this, the review and analysis of the entity’s numbers are important in order to identify and solve any variances or intercompany differences with the biggest entities which are NNIP BV and NNIH. At this point, you have to exercise your analytical skills because you have to dig into the bookings done within the month from both sides.

What is your ambition and where do you see yourself in 2 years?

My ambition for the next 2-year period is to gain the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) title. I have already passed the required exams, but I still lack of the 2-year continuous working experience on fields related to the CMA title. Also, I would like to improve my professional skills to such an extent that I will be able to take more initiatives and create my own path to become a team leader/manager.

Where did you go on vacation last year and what do you think is the best way to take a vacation?

Last year I went with a friend to Rhodes island in Greece to spend my summer vacation. We travelled around the island, visiting different beaches and sites, enjoying the island culture and taking pictures along the way. In my opinion, the best way to spend one’s vacation depends on the season. I believe that summers are ideally spent in a Greek island. The lifestyle is always vibrant in the summer months and the people are welcoming, while the opportunities of different sea-sports are plenty. As far as holidays on the rest of the year are concerned, I like visiting other countries, discovering new landscapes and coming into contact with other cultures.
