Your added value as Business Development Lead Third-party Platforms
NN Group is exploring new ways of distribution of its products in the digital platform economy. A year ago, NN Group started selling bike insurance via digital bike platforms (manufacturers, dealers, sports retailers; e.g. Cowboy eBikes) and is now active in 4 countries with this product. Our strategy is to grow platform business with various other products – mainly retail – on other third-party platforms. These platforms – often young scale-ups, but also more mature platforms – have an approach which is different to what financial services is accustomed to. They are highly digital, border-less, and relentlessly focussed on the customer.
The Business Development Lead Third-party Platforms will be responsible for a particular business line (i.e. a platform or a product), and take the lead to set it up, develop it into a fully fledged business of NN Group. You will take ownership of the investment and the P&L of that business line. This means creating commercial opportunities – supported by the wide network of NN Group, creating partnerships, developing the right products, setting up an operating value chain, and managing the business once it goes live. You are supported by your direct colleagues, and will be able to build your team in a way that fits the strategy and what you need. Also, you will have the opportunity to participate in further shaping NN’s strategy for distributing via third-party platforms.
Your core responsibilities will be:
- Scanning relevant markets, finding opportunities, and building business cases
- Building commercial relations
- Winning opportunities
- Defining the right proposition for the third-party platform
- Determining the right operational and technical set up of the value chain
- Setting up and leading the business line team
- Managing and coordinating activities
- Managing the business line according to business case
- Reporting and stakeholder management within NN Group

STO is responsible for bringing innovation to NN’s business, and has over 50 people are working with great enthusiasm on new concepts. Critical skills of the Business Development Lead Third-party Platforms
- Innovative mindset
- No-nonsense mentality, hands-on approach
- Strong communicator, sensitive, negotiation skills
- Able to build relations at director/board-level, and build trust
- Deals with set backs
- Understands business models, financial acumen
- Preferably broad knowledge of insurance and/or banking, their products, earnings, technology and regulations
- Preferably international experience
- Fluent in Dutch and English
The ideal candidate has approximately ten years’ experience in a commercial, business development, and/or consulting environment, and has a strong affinity with digital technologies.
