On 11 October, CIO NN Group hosted an inter-corporate IT trainee event in our Amsterdam office. Over 40 IT trainees from several organisations in the finance sector attended. The main purpose of the inter-corporate IT trainee events is to network and share knowledge and experiences.

Sharing knowledge and experiences
NN colleagues Ilona van den Berg and Martine Koehorst were part of the organising team.

Ilona: ‘The inter-corporate initiative started at ABN AMRO earlier this year where a number of IT trainees organised the first meeting. It was such a success that we offered to organise a second meeting at NN. We organised an interesting programme with speakers and break-out sessions and attracted over 40 participants from ING, Rabobank, Achmea, ABN AMRO, VGZ, Aegon, ASR and of course NN.’

Martine: ‘Amir Arooni, CIO NN Group, shared his view on the importance of IT, innovation and agility in a rapidly changing world, followed by a presentation from trendwatcher Menno van Doorn about digital happiness of the millennials and post-millennials. The interesting and inspiring presentations gave food for thought and encouraged discussion during the break-out sessions in which NN colleagues Martijn Hoogeweegen, Wijnand de Kruijff and Ellen Vaneker spoke with us about how to deal with legacy systems, the transformation on how we can reach our customers in the modern age and about millennials and leadership. We ended the day with a Cyber Crisis game in which we learned how to act and minimize the impact if your company is hacked.’

Some reactions from the attendees:
‘The second edition of the inter-corporate IT trainee event was a great success! It was a very nice way to meet other IT trainees and discuss mutual dilemmas together.’

‘It was really inspiring to meet IT professionals from outside my own network and company to exchange knowledge. That NN facilitates this initiative is great for the young professionals attending, as it is a nice introduction to our company.’

What’s next?
The next edition will be organised by ING!
